Friday of the Third Week of Easter

Reading 1 Acts 9:1-20 Saul, still breathing murderous threats against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest and asked him for letters to the synagogues in Damascus, that, if he should find any men or women who belonged to the Way, he might bring them back to Jerusalem in chains. On his journey, as he was nearing Damascus, a light from the sky suddenly flashed around him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him, "Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?" He said, "Who are you, sir?" The reply came, "I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. Now get up and go into the city and you will be told what you must do." The men who were traveling with him stood speechless, for they heard the voice but could see no one. Saul got up from the ground, but when he opened his eyes he could see nothing; so they led him by the hand and brought him to Damascus. For three days he was unable to see, and he neither ate nor drank. There was a disciple in Damascus named Ananias, and the Lord said to him in a vision, "Ananias." He answered, "Here I am, Lord." The Lord said to him, "Get up and go to the street called Straight and ask at the house of Judas for a man from Tarsus named Saul. He is there praying, and in a vision he has seen a man named Ananias come in and lay his hands on him, that he may regain his sight." But Ananias replied, "Lord, I have heard from many sources about this man, what evil things he has done to your holy ones in Jerusalem. And here he has authority from the chief priests to imprison all who call upon your name." Primera lectura Hechos 9, 1-20 En aquellos días, Saulo, amenazando todavía de muerte a los discípulos del Señor, fue a ver al sumo sacerdote y le pidió, para las sinagogas de Damasco, cartas que lo autorizaran para traer presos a Jerusalén a todos aquellos hombres y mujeres seguidores del Camino. Pero sucedió que, cuando se aproximaba a Damasco, una luz del cielo lo envolvió de repente con su resplandor. Cayó por tierra y oyó una voz que le decía: "Saulo, Saulo, ¿por qué me persigues?" Preguntó él: "¿Quién eres, Señor?" La respuesta fue: "Yo soy Jesús, a quien tú persigues. Levántate. Entra en la ciudad y allí se te dirá lo que tienes que hacer". Los hombres que lo acompañaban en el viaje se habían detenido, mudos de asombro, pues oyeron la voz, pero no vieron a nadie. Saulo se levantó del suelo, y aunque tenía abiertos los ojos, no podía ver. Lo llevaron de la mano hasta Damasco y allí estuvo tres días ciego, sin comer ni beber. Había en Damasco un discípulo que se llamaba Ananías, a quien se le apareció el Señor y le dijo: "Ananías". Él respondió: "Aquí estoy, Señor". El Señor le dijo: "Ve a la calle principal y busca en casa de Judas a un hombre de Tarso, llamado Saulo, que está orando". Saulo tuvo también la visión de un hombre llamado Ananías, que entraba y le imponía las manos para que recobrara la vista. Ananías contestó: "Señor, he oído a muchos hablar de ese individuo y del daño que ha hecho a tus fieles en Jerusalén. Además, trae autorización de los sumos sacerdotes para poner presos a todos los que invocan tu nombre". Pero el Señor le dijo: "No importa. Tú ve allá, porque yo lo he escogido como instrumento, para que me dé a conocer a las naciones, a los reyes y a los hijos de Israel. Yo le mostraré cuánto tendrá que padecer por mi causa". Ananías fue allá, entró en la casa, le impuso las manos a Saulo y le dijo: "Saulo, hermano, el Señor Jesús, que se te apareció en el camino, me envía para que recobres la vista y quedes lleno del Espíritu Santo".
